Pay-what-you-want (also known as PWYW) is a pricing model that allows customers to decide how much they want to pay for a resource. It is a great way for customers to access a resource for free if they choose, while still allowing the seller to make a profit. By allowing buyers to decide how much they think a resource is worth, creators can attract more buyers and increase their reach.

For Free Resources

We believe the future of resources is a mix of free and paid, utilising a freemium monetisation model. You shouldn’t have to decide whether you want to be open source or make money, we think that creators should be able to do both at the same time.

PWYW for free resources is a game-changer, as it means you can still offer your resource for $0, but still allow for buyers to pay for it if they would like to. Combined with addons, this is a powerful way to maximise reach while earning money. ‣

For Paid Resources

PWYW also works for paid resources, where the price you sell your resource for acts as the minimum price buyers are able to pay. For example, you can sell a plugin for $10 and with PWYW enabled, buyers will have to pay at least $10 for it, but optionally can pay you more if they believe it is worth more.

How to enable PWYW

To enable this functionality on your resources, simply edit your resource and go to the ‘Payment’ tab. Click ‘Enable pay-what-you-want’ and save your changes.
